The Journey: The Very Best of Donna Summer is a compilation of the American singer's hits released by Universal Music in 2003. It features most of Summer's best known songs from the 1970s disco era, during which she became the most successful female of that genre, plus some of her hits from the 1980s, during which time she experimented with different genres.

The Journey was released in the U.K. on the back of her appearance on the TV special Disco Mania which celebrated the 1970s disco era and saw Summer performing her 1979 duet "No More Tears (Enough Is Enough)" (originally with Barbra Streisand) with Irish boyband Westlife.

The album was also released in the U.S. with a slightly different tracklisting - both on the album itself and also on the so called 'limited edition bonus disc'.

Three new songs were recorded for the collection, including "You're So Beautiful" and "Dream-A-Lot's Theme (I Will Live For Love)", both of which were released as promotional singles. The U.K. version of the compilation placed the two new recordings "That's The Way" and "Dream-A-Lots-Theme" on the limited edition bonus disc - these two tracks are consequently not available on the U.K. single-disc edition of The Journey.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ring Ring is the debut studio album by the Swedish pop group ABBA. It was released in Scandinavia and a limited number of other territories, including West Germany, Australia, South Africa and Mexico, on March 26, 1973 through Polar Music. The album was a chart-topping album in Belgium, and a big success in Holland, Norway and South Africa.

The album was re-released in Australasia in 1975, but was not released in the United Kingdom until 1992, and the United States until three years later. The re-release artwork for the album (see below) uses the name "ABBA", although at the time of the album's original release, the name ABBA had not yet been coined, and instead was awkwardly credited to "Björn & Benny, Agnetha & Frida". Ring Ring was first released on CD in Sweden in 1988; a West German CD release followed in 1990 (later released internationally). The album has been reissued in digitally remastered form three times; first in 1997, then in 2001 and again in 2005 as part of the The Complete Studio Recordings box set.

The original 1973 Polar version of the album opens with "Ring Ring (Bara Du Slog En Signal)", the Swedish version of the track, and places the English language version as track four on side two.

The track "She's My Kind of Girl", included on the international editions, is in fact a song by Björn & Benny which dates back to 1969, which was a hit in Japan, and had also been included on the b-side of the English version of the "Ring Ring" single in Scandinavia.

Ring Ring also features a song co-written by Agnetha Fältskog. Although she had composed much of her Swedish solo output, the song "Disillusion", for which she wrote the music, is the only song released on an ABBA album to feature a songwriting contribution from her.

When the first song "People Need Love" was recorded in the Spring of 1972, the group was just one of many projects the four members were involved in. Only after the title track, "Ring Ring" became a hit, did the four decide to go on working together as a permanent group.

The Essential Tony Bennett is a two-CD compilation album by Tony Bennett, released in 2002. The collection is part of a series of Essential sets released by Columbia Records, and was created in collaboration with RPM Records and Legacy Recordings.

The compilation includes material from throughout Bennett's career with Columbia, with no recordings after 1970 and before 1986 as Bennett was with other labels or unsigned altogether during that fallow period of his career. The 12-page foldout CD insert contains songwriting, arranging, and producing credits for each track, as well as recording dates and chart positions attained if any. It also contains large photographs of Bennett in the recording studio from early and late periods in his career, as well as thumbnail-sized images of all the albums covers from Bennett's Columbia catalog, in chronological order.

Allmusic describes The Essential Tony Bennett as "an excellent, exhaustive retrospective of a lengthy, hit-filled career at Columbia. ... Bennett surely recorded more great material than can fit on a two-disc, 40-track collection, but this contains the cream of the crop and it's hard to imagine a collection like this being executed better than this."

In 2008, a 3 disc version entitled The Essential Tony Bennett: Limited Edition 3.0 was released.

Pierino "Perry" Como (May 18, 1912 - May 12, 2001) was an American singer and television personality. During a career spanning more than half a century he recorded exclusively for the RCA Victor label after signing with it in 1943. "Mr. C", as he was nicknamed, sold millions of records for RCA and pioneered a weekly musical variety television show, which set the standards for the genre and proved to be one of the most successful in television history. His combined success on television and popular recordings was not matched by any other artist of the time.

A popular television performer and recording artist, Perry Como produced numerous hit records with record sales so high the label literally stopped counting at Como's behest. His weekly television show and seasonal specials were broadcast throughout the world and his popularity seemingly had no geographical or language boundaries. He was equally at ease in live performance and in the confines of a recording studio. His appeal spanned generations and he was widely respected for both his professional standards and the conduct in his personal life. In the official RCA Records Billboard Magazine memorial, his life was summed up in these few words: "50 years of music and a life well lived. An example to all."

Well known composer Ervin Drake said of him, " . . . occasionally someone like Perry comes along and won't 'go with the flow' and still prevails in spite of all the bankrupt others who surround him and importune him to yield to their values. Only occasionally."

Perry Como received the Kennedy Center Honors in 1987, and was inducted into the Long Island Music Hall of Fame in 2006.
